Lafayette Gun Club Narrowly Defeats Lebanon AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Lafayette Gun Club edged out Lebanon AJROTC 2247.1 to 2233.1 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League Post-Season to win the Sporter Invitational Championship. Lafayette Gun Club was led by Alexandra Orr who shot a 588.7. The remaining contributing members were Alanna Greene, Wade Brown, Parker Anderson, and Ayden Lawson. They are from Grafton, VA, and are coached by Charles Orr.
Lebanon AJROTC was led by Rusty Vaughn who shot a 565.0. The remaining contributing members were Erin Hiller, Jalynn Wilson, Alana Griffiths, and Zachary Schlundt. Lebanon AJROTC is from Lebanon, OR, and is coached by LTC Mark Smith.
The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season, followed by the post-season going on now.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 20 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team of 5 athletes.
