Zion Benton NJROTC edged out North Brunswick AJROTC 2302.3 to 2286.3 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League Post-Season Championship game to win the Sporter Champions Division. Their third win in a row. Zion Benton NJROTC was led by Gianna Gomez who shot a 585.9. The remaining contributing members were Brianna Benedetto, Addyson Gustafson, Brayden Rich, and Katelynn Emerson. They are from Zion, IL, and are coached by Dan Hackstein.
North Brunswick AJROTC was led by Lizeth Dominguez who shot a 577.9. The remaining contributing members were Miguel Gonzalez, Valeria Alvarado, Ilene Rodriguez, and Julian Seda. North Brunswick AJROTC is from Leland, NC, and is coached by George Williams..
Zion Benton finished the season with a 9 - 1 record, while North Brinswwick finishes the season with a 7 - 3 record.
The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season, followed by the post-season going on now.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 20 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 60 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team of 5 athletes.
