Lafayette Gun Club defeats Mariner AJROTC
Lafayette Gun Club defeated Mariner AJROTC 1119.7 to 1093.5 in the 2024 National Sporter Air Rifle League. Lafayette Gun Club was led by Alexandra Orr who shot a 283.7. The remaining contributing members were Parker Anderson, Ayden Lawson, and Wade Brown. They are from Grafton, VA, and are coached by Charles Orr.
Lafayette Gun Club is competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in tenth place. Within the Junior Rifle Club Conference they finish in first place. They finished the regular season with a 4 - 3 record.
Mariner AJROTC was led by Tyler Dennard who shot a 284.0. The remaining contributing members were Zoe Enslin, Robert Woelke, and Elyssa Vazquez. Mariner AJROTC is from Cape Coral, FL, and is coached by Bryan Williams.
Mariner AJROTC is also competing in the Champions Division where they finish the regular season in twenty-second place. They finished the regular season with a 3 - 4 record.
Lafayette Gun Club will advance to post-season play. They will be the 10 seed in the Invitational Tournament. Their first round game will be against 15 seed West Valley MCJROTC. This game is scheduled for the week of December 2nd.
Thanks to their performance this season, both Lafayette Gun Club and Mariner AJROTC have qualified for the Champions Division for the 2025 National Air Rifle League.
The league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week regular season going on now, followed by the post-season.
The Champions Division is reserved for the top teams in the country. The top eight teams from the Champions Division regular season will compete in a single elimination tournament for the league championships.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoot 10 shots in three different shooting positions, kneeling, prone, and standing. Scored in decimal, each shot is worth a maximum of 10.9 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
